What does "Pending" mean on mySedgwick?

Pending isn't a verdict. For a continuous leave case, mySedgwick runs a daily balancing process behind the scenes — checking that day's absence against your case before it posts a final status to the calendar. Until that finishes, the day shows as Pending.

That process usually wraps up within the first six hours of the day. After that, the status updates to whatever the day's actual evaluation is. If a day still reads Pending well past that window, it's worth a check-in, not a panic.

How long does a Sedgwick leave case usually take?

There's no single published number for how long a Sedgwick leave of absence takes to move from open to approved — it depends on your documentation, your case type, and how quickly Walmart's forms come back. What is fixed is the deadline on your side: all documents are due no later than your medical due date, 20 days from when your initial packet was sent, or 20 days from your first date of absence, whichever lands later.

That due date is the number worth writing down. Everything else moves around it: how fast Sedgwick reviews, how fast a status updates.

What does each mySedgwick case status mean?

Sedgwick uses a short, fixed set of labels. Here's what each one means on a leave or accommodation case:

Open — your case has been created and is active; Sedgwick hasn't finished reviewing it yet.

Under Review — Sedgwick or Walmart is actively evaluating your documentation.

Pending — for continuous leave, a specific day is still running through the daily balancing process (see above).

Approved — your leave or accommodation has been granted.

Denied — the request wasn't approved as submitted; see below for what that means for your points.

Currently Accommodated — an accommodation case with an active accommodation in place.

Closed — the case has been resolved and is no longer active.

One label to skip past if you spot it: Accepted only applies to workers' comp claims, not leave or accommodation cases — different track entirely.

Do my attendance points stop while my case is pending?

Short answer: don't assume so. There's no official confirmation that attendance points stop the moment a case opens or shows Pending — the clearest protection is tied to your leave or accommodation actually being approved.

Protected PTO (PPTO) is the one lever that's confirmed: using enough available PPTO for an unplanned absence, applied correctly, protects you from an attendance occurrence. That's a general PPTO rule, though, not a guarantee about what happens automatically while a Sedgwick case sits open. Before approval is the risky stretch — don't assume the days are covered just because a case is open.

Check your attendance record in the associate app the same way you check mySedgwick — don't wait for a status change to notice a problem.

A script and a schedule, so you're not just refreshing the app

Script, for a call or a Communication Center message: "Hi, this is [your name], Walmart associate ID [your ID]. I'm following up on an open Sedgwick case, case number [your case number], for a leave or accommodation request. The status has shown [current status] since [date] — can you confirm what's still outstanding and the current expected timeline?"

Cadence: Check mySedgwick once a day, after midday — the daily balancing process for continuous leave usually finishes within the first six hours. If your status hasn't moved in about a week, send the script above through the Communication Center. If a week passes with no reply, call Sedgwick directly at 800-492-5678. If you need more time to submit documentation, contact Sedgwick before your medical due date, not after. Sedgwick is who grants extensions, not Certicare or Walmart. If Sedgwick still isn't responding and you're close to that date with no movement, call Walmart People Services at 800-421-1362.

Certicare is not affiliated with Walmart. Walmart makes the final decision on leave and accommodation requests. This page is general information about the leave process, not legal advice.

What happens to my points if my case is denied?

A denial means the absences your case was supposed to cover go back to being evaluated under Walmart's normal attendance policy, points included, unless PPTO or another protected category applies to those specific days. That's the practical risk of the wait: a case can stay open for weeks and still end in a status that doesn't protect the time off after the fact.

If you think a denial was wrong, that's a conversation for your manager, not a reason to stop responding to anything Sedgwick still asks for.

For a closer look at exactly what a denial means for your points and how to respond, see our guide on what happens to your points after a Sedgwick denial.

How do I follow up with Sedgwick without hurting my case?

Following up on your own case shouldn't put it at risk. What can slow things down is a message that's hard to act on — no case number, no specifics, nothing an examiner can look up quickly.

Use the channel that leaves a record. mySedgwick's Communication Center lets you message your assigned examiner directly on an open case. Have your case number ready every time you contact Sedgwick, whichever channel you use.

When should I escalate to Walmart People Services?

Sedgwick administers your case, but Walmart People Services is who to call when Sedgwick isn't getting you anywhere — a case stuck with no movement past your medical due date, an examiner who isn't responding, or an attendance point you believe shouldn't have posted while a case was open. People Services can look at the Walmart side of the record that Sedgwick doesn't touch.

Call 800-421-1362. Have your case number, your medical due date, and a short, specific version of what's stuck — not the whole story, just the blocker.

One thing not to lose track of while you wait

An open case doesn't pause your attendance record by itself, and it doesn't refresh the page for you. Keep an eye on both mySedgwick and your attendance points at the same time, not just one or the other.
